Logic cathodic '80s (I): David the Gnome

David the Gnome was fucking. A veterinarian about eight inches long, white with red hat who rode on the back of a fox in a forest full of nature infinite, magical beings and trolls bad, very bad. Is all that, over the years, could be said of David the Gnome, expressing the vague memories of a few remaining of his three, four years. David the Gnome was a series of fucking. The first pillar on which I build my childhood passion for cartoons desktop. The first major series of my life. A good place to start.

The adventures of this venerable physician hundred-odd years seems, at this point, as one of the highest peaks of the Iberian production (it was a Portuguese English production) cartoon. Light years, you will be with me, animated television series as embarrassing as Fruitis or Delphi. Perhaps one of the most international, as the Anglo-Saxon version issued by the U.S. children's channel Nickelodeon kept in regular broadcast to the mid 90's.

The text in the header, you can read in the great video with the next crowned this post, and surely many of us were not able to decode in those early eighties, realize the spirit and intent educational the series, with most common reason for children's productions of the time. David the Gnome cultivated a love of nature and animals. Proclaimed from the rooftops the pleasures of professionals such as veterinarians, biologists and park rangers. But above all, built part of that mythology which Mycroft was cleverly referenced in the comments of the first post of this series. We had the forest as a paradise full of tiny creatures, wild animals with heart and wicked trolls. Creatures in which we all thought ever seeing this series, as if the tooth fairy is treated.

But if David the Gnome became its own right in a series of generational accent for us, children of 80, went for an epic finale that few contemplate what we forget. The good or bad fortune of living in this era of internet connection Cable and youtube has allowed me, personally, to reconnect with one of those moments cathode burned into my retinas. Time can enjoy a little further down, if they have the enough time, desire and nostalgia. Because here's the crux of the matter, these minutes of recording exude the most perfect definition of cathodic nostalgia, and hackneyed in the introductory post of this chain.

The strange final chapter of this legendary series, as evidenced by included comments by users of Youtube and IMBD , left a single memory among infants we followed with passion the adventures of the gnome healer. The puppy that we have inside, crying tears loose the disappearance of one of our heroes. Because the mutation of David and his wife Lisa leave trees after the fox Swift was the first contact that many of us had to concepts such as order, disappearance, death. A cathode ray event, in short, comparable to the fall of the twin towers, live satellite broadcast or the man on the moon. Where were you when ...? Perhaps the loss of innocence, whatever. Those things, you know ... cathodic nostalgia ... enjoy it.

The fact that David the Gnome never rescheduled in the years immediately following his final and, moreover, was issued 's call gnomes, then loosely concocted by the same director original series, a certain Ernest Reid are some of the most mythologized points post to this old series. But the impact on a lot of us had this unexpected ending that the situation as one of the greatest claim series deserve. A good starting point for this trip back in time in which we embark today.

Here is the complete closure, thanking those who have bothered to rescue these incunabula that have encouraged this inaugural post, although the quality, in short, could be better.
